All this week, I’ve been flirting with this pair of leather leggings – or to quote Macklemore and Ryan Lewis – “alright, I’m lying, they’re pleather, but we can still ride together”. The hanging tags it had didn’t reveal a big figure, to my surprise.
I feel like I could work the look, but at the same time, I have always been in the camp that A. leggings are not pants and should never be worn as pants and B. falling for exaggerated trends is always a bad idea.
I have in the past fallen for those ridiculous fashion trends that are anything but timeless – harem pants or platform sneakers anyone?. They seem like such a good idea at the time, but you wear them for one season and suddenly the very idea of putting them again seems ridiculously uncool.
I learned my lesson pretty quickly and now try to steer clear of these sorts of trends, preferring to keep my wardrobe pretty fashion neutral with pieces I like and pieces I know won’t go too much out of fashion.
That said, I think leather leggings would look killer with a thick beige knit sweater, a trench coat and ankle boats. I have all three of those things, but no leggings.
Then again, I also think leather or pleather is the domain of biker prostitutes… so you can understand my Friday dilemma. The jury is out!
But if you are sold, get a pair.
